A pleasingly simple, mid-period Victorian Brass & Iron bedstead of charming design with the popular, lighter feel of 1¼” main posts. Bedsteads of this style and design have almost timeless appeal when finished in a clean, crisp white enamel as shown here. The practicalities a bedstead brings to one’s home can never be understated either. Standing upon just four legs makes them easy to level on a cottage’s uneven floor, and there is the added advantage of being able to hoover right beneath a Victorian bedstead too. By contrast, the modern Divan, being so low to the floor, can harbor so much dust in such a short time, and opportunities to hoover and remove this can be few and far between.
Product Description
So, in all, a popular model and a best-selling line for us today as it would have been for our Victorian forbears. Featuring ½” gate laths and decorative cast-iron joints throughout, not least the pleasing central cast-iron ‘shield’ joints that rise to meet and support the bedstead’s brass top rails. As a simple model, this bedstead’s brass mounts are accounted for by straight ¾” OD brass top rails, spun bulbous collars, and classic round ball top-knobs. The head and footboard gates are further appointed with additional vertical brass tubes complete with ferrules and half-drops.

The images shown here of bed ref: 96025B60 show this bedstead complete with a combined mattress and bedstead height of 32cm (12½”). A Brass & Iron bedstead such as this one could accommodate a deeper mattress and base height but this should not exceed 40cm (16”). One should be mindful that making a bedstead’s overall mattress height either too high or too low can impact the aesthetic integrity of the overall scheme one is seeking to create.
