4ft6 Tudor Style Oak Bedstead – Ref. 95437W54

Appraised as a Victorian Cabinet Workshop’s ‘Re-Creation’. This early Solid Oak Bedstead with original carved wood details and original features dating back to the 17th or even late 16th centuries. This bedstead has a highly vernacular charm and character, pointing to its origins as being the endeavours of a Victorian cabinet maker’s workshop. As such, we believe the bedstead to be a typical ‘recreation’ from parts of a much earlier bed or even another piece of furniture such as a blanket chest or dresser back. Almost all of the footboard can quite literally be stated as being 250-300 years of age. All told, then a rare opportunity to buy a ‘character’ Oak bedstead in the Tudor style with many authentic period features. We purchased it from a private home in Southwold, so one could possibly attribute it to the Ipswich School of furniture makers. From one firm or another, amongst them the Goodwin of Suffolk, this furniture maker’s work spans over 150 years alone now. Quick Ship Programme.

One should be mindful that making a bedstead’s overall mattress height either too high or too low can impact the aesthetic integrity of the overall scheme one is seeking to create.
