Elegantly slender, this early Victorian brass and iron bedstead is a fine model that showcases a beautifully proportioned, full-depth footboard gate – a feature less common on the 1” main posts, also highlighted here. The gate itself exhibits a gentle mirror symmetry theme, continuing seamlessly from main post to main post.
Additional noteworthy features include crisply cast decorative iron chills and high-quality brass mounts. The main posts present these mounts in a torchère-style manner, adorned with completely smooth half-collars that perfectly complement the smooth form of the brass top knobs mounted upon them.

The images shown here of bed ref: BA 7031B54 show this bedstead complete with a combined mattress and bedstead base height of 25cm (10”). A Victorian Brass & Iron bedstead such as this one would not comfortably accommodate too deeper mattress and base height and we suggest that combined, the mattress and base should not exceeds 32.5cm (13”). One should be mindful that making a bedstead’s overall mattress height either too high or too low can impact the aesthetic integrity of the overall scheme one is seeking to create.
