3ft6 Antique Victorian All Brass Half-tester Bedstead – Ref. BA 5314 A42

£2,750.00

A charming, fine-quality early Victorian all-brass half-tester bedstead. Standing upon the best-quality brass shanked white ceramic castors, this bedstead would form a wonderfully important centrepiece in one’s carefully created bedroom scheme. Its appeal is quirky yet charmingly formal, and its generous 3ft 6 large single size offers the most comfortable of retreats. So, whether for guests or just as an indulgent spare room retreat, think of this bedstead as one’s own personal s’échapper to repose or to read, or just to dream.

Aesthetically speaking, points to note are firstly the footboard, which features a slender gate suspended under a flat brass top rail, flanked by traditional ‘hockey sticks’, indicative features of earlier Victorian all-brass bedsteads. The gate’s central feature is a ship’s wheel with further cast brass spindles quarter-spaced beyond the outer wheel. This brings an overall nautical theme to this bedstead, thus the formal manner in which it presents. The headboard, demi-lune in form, is currently standing upholstered in a traditional deep button and vertical flute scheme and features a cream damask fabric, again indicative of its day.

So of real and very traditional country house interest, this fine brass half-tester bedstead has had the fullest and most professional restoration in Bed Bazaar’s own specialist bedstead workrooms and metal workshops. It stands fully lacquered, and all ironwork has been grit-blasted and repainted too. The upholstery has not been restored by us and was possibly redone in the 1980s but can by all means be reworked to a customer’s scheme. A simple deep-buttoned pattern would be our choice and one that can be carried out in COM fabric; quite literally then, the material of one’s dreams! Quick ship programme.

Mattresses & bedstead Bases:
The images shown here of bed ref: BA 5314A42 do not show this bedstead complete with bedstead base and mattress. How ever we would recommend a combined mattress and bedstead height of 40cm (16”). Please also note that a fine, statement Victorian All Brass bedstead such as this one should would accommodate a deeper mattress and base height but not one that exceeds 45cm (18”). One should be mindful that making a bedstead’s overall mattress height either too high or too low can impact the aesthetic integrity of the overall scheme one is seeking to create. As such we recommend speaking to one of our highly experienced team for further advice on our own Suffolk Journeyman range of mattresses and bedsteads bases.
