3ft Antique Victorian Iron Bedstead – Ref. BA 9361C36

A mid period Victorian bedstead of the highest quality being of an immensely robust stamp when compared to its peers of the day. Attributed to R.W. Winfield but not labelled as such, this bedstead could also have been produced by Winfield’s noted understudies and latterly peers, Richard & Edward Peyton of Peyton & Peyton. Its crisp cast chills and central cast cross are of the popular Celtic influence of the day. This bedstead’s 14swg tubular outer frame and stout reeded flat wire centres are of a quality not seen or used in bed manufacture since the 19th century. As such it is an ever fixed mark to the integrity of its makers ceaseless endeavour for quality and longevity in all its products.

This initially came via an extensive article on the then fledgling Bed Bazaar business in The World of Interiors magazine’s regular ‘Shops’ feature. This was written by the magazines aspiring editor Ilse Crawford in the late 1980’s and the feature’s images were photographed by photographer David Gamble. Finish / Finishes:
Stove Enamel Paint Finishes: Currently standing unrestored this bedstead would benefit from our cost price inclusive grit blasting process and a traditional oven backed stive enamel paint finish. Standard colours, again cost price inclusive, are Satin Black and Glossy Ivory (BS 10B15). Other oven baked, stove enamel colours are available at additional cost.
Hand, Brush Painted Finishes: Alternatively this bedstead could be grit blasted clean, primed and hand brush painted in a colour of your choice. Bed Bazaar commonly uses paint suppliers such as Farrow & Ball, Mylands or The Little Green Paint Co. Once painted the point of difference we offer is to soft-sand, tone and wax the paint to give an authentic patina and add character and history back to the beds final finish. Our hand painted finishes look sensational, they are the best in our industry by some margin.
