Popular early Edwardian Brass & Iron bedstead. Made circa 1901 by bedstead makers Daniel Sweetbred & Sons, it features their trademark ‘Spade’ cast iron ‘T’ joints. Originally akin to one of the four suits of playing cards in the standard French deck, in this context it references the leaf symbol in German-suited cards. This reference to the natural world at the dawn of the 20th century was the design pre-cursor to the Arts & Crafts and Art Noveau design movements.
Shallow dipped brass top rails and dotted, double Pagoda posts caps finalise this bedstead scheme to a tee; a highly popular model with bed buyers through the generations. Quick ship programme.
